Guy Cheales BiographyBorn in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1950, raised on a farm - closest village, White River - one sibling, sister Ann, lives in Hawaii - late parents, Hilary and Molly. Finished school in Johannesburg in 1967 - my final year English master, the late Malcolm Armstrong, got me writing. I spent 1968 in the army engineers, where I was an instructor. From 1969 to 1974 I worked with cars and racing cars, as an apprentice, mechanic, driver and workshop proprietor, in South Africa and England. I emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, in 1974 and was self employed in small business. After some engineering study, I got into manufacturing management in 1986 - made toolboxes and steam sterilisers - won design awards and built standards compliant export products. In 1998 I moved to Sydney, to marry Cate. After learning more about computers, was involved in IT and electrical training. I stopped all the work nonsense in mid 2008 and struggled in the GFC. In late 2009 I returned return to real work, delivering printing around Sydney and thinking a lot. I continue to be fascinated by Apple Inc and its products. This biography is of course all fantasy - with apologies to Anton Checkhov. < Back to Cheales Home Page |
